Tips for tradespeople and site professionals on writing a clear construction CV: tickets, projects, references and layout employers actually read.
Keep it to two pages
Employers and recruiters read quickly. Lead with your name, contact details, trade and location, then a short summary of your experience. Two pages is plenty for most construction CVs.
List your tickets and cards at the top
CSCS, CPCS, NPORS, SSSTS, SMSTS, first aid, manual handling and any other tickets are often the first thing a recruiter checks. List them clearly with card type and expiry dates.
Describe projects, not just jobs
Rather than only listing employers, say what you built or managed: the type of project, the size, your role and the results. For example, the number of plots, the type of build or the team you led.
Be honest about your experience
Construction is a small world. Be accurate about dates, responsibilities and what you did on site. Employers value honesty and will check references.
Add references and availability
Include references where possible and say when you are available to start. If you are currently working, say that you can discuss availability in confidence.
